Welcome to the Credit Bureau Association (CBA)
The Credit Bureau Association (“the CBA”) is a voluntary association of registered credit bureaus in South Africa and is funded by its members.
The CBA's mission is:
- To create a framework of standards and policies that protect consumer credit information;
- To promote the effective management of credit in South Africa;
- To create a platform for members to
- Discuss the nature and quality of the data received and reported;
- Explore opportunities that will influence the sustainability of the credit industry;
- Discuss adherence to the CBA Constitution, policies and directives; and
- Discuss regulatory changes that impact the operations of the credit bureaus; and
- To liaise and consult, and to make representations to government authorities as a collective.
In furtherance of its mission statement, and on behalf of the credit bureaus, the CBA provides:
- Credit reporting to the National Credit Regulator (“the NCR”) in respect of the suppliers of data to the credit bureaus, and facilitates the reporting by credit bureaus in respect of consumer credit information to the NCR;
- A secure file transfer protocol in terms of which data providers make emergency changes/amendments to the information held by the credit bureaus; and
- A platform for consumers to report their complaints, which have been escalated to the CBA for their adjudication once attended to by the various credit bureaus, in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013.
